Leather, silver & bead work "kazoo"
Even before establishing the brand kazoo, I was fascinated by Native American jewelry (especially beadwork by Plains tribes) and indigenous culture, which led me to visit the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in 2001.
I create everything myself, from various standard products to full custom orders, based on "beadwork on deerskin," using the Lazy Stitch, one of the most popular traditional techniques of the Plains tribes (especially the Lakota).
The designs for my beadwork are shaped by what I want to express now, based on what I felt while traveling the Lakota lands, the people I met there, and my experiences.
Finally, the name "kazoo" came about when the grandchild of an elder who helped me in the Indian reservation couldn't pronounce my name "Kazumi" correctly and suddenly started calling me "Kazoo!". Since then, it has become my nickname and the name of my workshop.
