"Hon-aizome" (traditional indigo dyeing) involves cultivating "tade-ai" (Persicaria tinctoria), the raw material for indigo dyeing, in Tokushima, then fermenting it to create sukumo (indigo compost). This sukumo, along with natural materials such as lye and wheat bran, is used to make a fermented dye liquid, with each item hand-dyed individually.
There are various methods of indigo dyeing, but "Hon-aizome" is the most traditional and utilizes the inherent properties of indigo.
As you use it, the color will change, and this aging process will make it a unique item that is truly yours.
